Prufrock is my favourite coffee shop in London and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. I think it produces by far and away the best coffee day in day out and puts more of an onus on consistent excellence in coffee than any other place in London.
I attended yesterday after the lunchtime rush and took a 6oz with milk (the espresso menu is fantastically simple – 20z, 4oz, 6oz or 8oz), which to anyone else is a flat white.
My attention was drawn to the guest espresso, Jirmiwachu, a single estate Ethiopian. The barista described it as tasting like a strawberry milkshake, and he was right. It began slightly nutty, full in the mouth and then the unmistakeable strawberry milkshake finish kicked in, lifting up through the palate. Beautiful. It was perfectly complemented by the fruit and custard slice, which was as good to taste as it was to look at:
The ambience, as always, was understated and peaceful. They even had a man on keyboard in the corner playing jazz.
Spotlessly clean, consistently brilliant and always trying something new, Prufrock is the ideal choice if you are in the area of Leather Lane and you want to taste coffee perfection or if you just want to unwind in a pleasant environment. I dare say I will be making a return visit to sample the brew bar again, so watch this space.
